The Rockaway Mall in New Jersey has now reopened after an earlier McDonald's grease fire caused the mall to be evacuated.

According to the Daily Record, the fire reportedly started at 4:15pm local time, and while people had to be removed from the mall, no injuries were reported.

Margaret Miller spoke to the Daily Record as she was arriving when the mall was being evacuated. She said she could see lots of smoke coming from the McDonald's but no flames.

"It's a madhouse here,'' she said. "It doesn't look they're going to reopen anytime soon. Now there's just traffic backed up everywhere.''

According to Ms. Miller, people just waited outside in the parking lot for the mall to reopen and while the police and ambulance members inspected the premises.

Routes 80 and 15 experienced delays due to the road closures because of the fire.

It is not known exactly how the fire started, but it appears to be the result of grease in the cooking area of the McDonald's.

"grease in the cooking area"

Last place you'd expect to find grease, whatever next?
