Roger Kibbe, the man known as the I-5 Strangler, was sentenced today to six life sentences for the murders of six women along the I-5 Highway in California.

Roger Kibbe, who is now 70, made a plea deal for the sentence to spare him from the death penalty. Prosecutors say that he will probably die in prison either way, if he gets life sentences or is put on death row.

Roger Kibbe is charged with the murders of Lou Ellen Burleigh, Lora Heedick, Barbara Ann Scott, Stephanie Brown, Charmaine Sabrah, and Katherine Kelly Quinones, five of whom were killed in 1986, and one in 1977. Lou Ellen Burleigh, who was killed in 1977 was the only one not dumped near I-5 in California, but the other five were in 1986.

Kibbe was already serving a life sentence for the 1987 murder of Darcie Frankenpohl, who was just 17-years old when she was killed.

Kibbe was charged while serving a life sentence for the 1987 slaying. Investigators had long suspected him of the other crimes, but it took decades to build the case against him.

Kibbe liked to abduct his victims, rape them, assault them and then strangle them with their own clothes. He would then dump them by the side of the road.
