VANCOUVER :  Global BC reporter Global BC reporter charged with sexual assault of a minor .
Bencze, 44, faces five charges, including sex assault, two counts of sexual interference with a person under the age of 16 and two of invitation to sexual touching involving a person under 16.

There are 15 conditions on Bencze's release, including staying away from parks, public swimming areas, daycares, schools, playgrounds or community centres; not working or volunteering anywhere he will be in a position of trust or authority to a person under 16; and not being in the presence of anyone under 16 except in the company of another adult.

He is scheduled for a court appearance on Feb. 7.

The offences are alleged to have taken place over 10 years, said Grainger.

Global TV news director Ian Haysom said he only learned of the charges on Tuesday afternoon.

He said the news station is “very concerned about the allegations” but will not comment further until more is known about the situation.

The allegations stunned the Global newsroom. Anchor Chris Galius tweeted that the charges were “shocking news to us.” None of the allegations has been proven in court.

Bencze joined Global in 2004 as a writer for the Morning News before becoming a full-time reporter.

The award-winning journalist worked in radio for nearly 20 years and is well-known for being News 1130’s crime specialist before he moved to Global.

He is married with three children.

My question is, with these conditions placed on him WHY has he been relocated to his parents home across the road from and elementary school and daycare, and just down the street from a public park and playground! The police never notified the school of this either... please be aware.

Too bad but the darkness must come to light.  There are already 2 more underage males to come forward in addition. I am sure the charges will be made public soon. And what is normal with pedos who offend long term is that they have honed their skills and more often than not have multiple targets.  I know that there will be many more people coming forward as the story unfolds

Let a judge find an accused "guilty" before you go condemning him/her.  Much is at stake -- a life, a reputation, a family.  The media should be held responsible for their role in demonizing accused individuals who are eventually found to be "not guilty", and therefore INNOCENT.  An unrestrained media is a blight on the concept of freedom of speech, thinking it can slander and libel with impunity. And a word about children, to people who don't yet have any:  they sometimes tell lies -- great big whopping, ever-increasing lies, in an age when the authorities are more than happy to believe every utterance they make.Lady Justice needs to lift her blindfold -- she can't be flying blind anymore in a politically-correct, child-as-angel world.

PEDOPHILE. He should be crucified and hung out to dry for the public to spit at. This shows the kind of scums Global is hiring these days.
