Royal Air Freight Flight 988 Crashes at Chicago Executive Airport
A small cargo jet crashed in a forest near Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, IL. Royal Air Freight Flight 998 (RAX 988) crashed as it approached the airport and attempted to land. The Federal Aviation Administration said Royal Air Flight 998 went down at about 1:30 pm when it was on its final approach to runway 3-4 at Chicago Executive Airport.
The plane was cleared for landing, and the pilot had the runway insight. The weather condition was good with few clouds, visibility unlimited.
The flight was operated with a Learjet 35 from Pontiac, MI to Chicago, IL. It departed at 1:47 pm EST. According to Flight Stats, Royal Air Freight Flight 988 was scheduled for take off 1:41 pm. However, it says the plane landed online.
The aircraft went down at about 1:30 pm and wreckage can be seen from Chopper 780, including a tail section and fuselage that's partially submerged in water.
It is believed that the pilot was the only occupant on the airplane. The cargo jet can carry up to 8 passengers
