The Running of the Bulls 2009 began today in Pamplona, Spain. An estimated 2,000 revelers ran through the streets of the Basque city alongside six fighting bulls and six steers.

Today was the first run that will occur daily during the Fiesta de San Fermin, which runs from July 6-14. During today's Running of the Bulls, no one was gored by bulls, but four people were sent to hospital with minor injuries. The run lasted about two-and-a-half minutes.

A son is fulfilling a dream and is running with the bulls.  Thank you for your coverage of the runs and events.  It must be a thrill of a life time.

However, for a mother, it is not.

I have 2 sons who plan to run on Friday.  I will keep asking them not to run until they leave for Pamplona on Thursday!  Why not just watch?  I'll never understand young men...

Is it true that women are not allowed to run with the bulls? Or that it's frowned upon if they try to?

yes it is frowned upon if girls run, and the spanish people dont like it at all, if u are lucky enough to be able to get into the street (without the security guys kicking you out) you have to be careful of the spanish as they will push u out of the way and are quite rough as they dont want females doing it, so not only do  u have t worry about the bulls but the spanish as well.

good luck :)

My son Kev & his mates Lance & Riki all from NZ did the Running with the Bulls. I asked Kev, "did you get to run close to the bulls or touch them?" He said "As close as I wanted to and that was not close, they are Huge and only a fool would want to run near them".  He had an awesome time, an experience not soon forgotten, I'm sure...  Whew! I am glad he had the experience but more so thankful he has come away safe.

Hurrahhhh  for the bulls.  It is about time they get revenge!  They deserve it.  I do not understand why tormenting animals is so much fun.  Just shows how uncaring most of the people in this world are.
