The Running of the Bulls 2011 began today in Pamplona, Spain. Tens of thousands of revelers packed the city's Plaza del Ayuntamiento as the festival kicked off with fireworkers and plenty of alcohol.

The Running of the Bulls is part of the Fiesta de San Fermin, which runs from July 6-14, 2011. The highlight of San Fermin is when party-goers run through the streets of the Basque city alongside six fighting bulls and six steers. The first running of the bulls will take place Thursday at 6:00 GMT.

The Running of the Bulls isn't all fun and games. Over the years, several people having died during the running. Two years ago, a 27-year-old Spaniard was gored to death by a bull.
