Ruskin Bond celebrates His birthday with his fans in Mussoorie

The fans and friend alike gathered at Cambridge book store to celebrate 75th Birthday of eminent Children book author Ruskin Bond in Kulri Bazaar Mussoorie.Ruskin Bond has written more than 75 books in his long writing career arrived at the store around 4.30 PM and was immediately surrounded by the fans especially children from age group of 6 to 16.The school Children from Dehradun, Mussoorie, Saharanpur and Mumbai wished the author on his 75th year. Ruskin Bond moved by the outpouring of emotions from his fans. Ruskin Bond cut the cake in presence of large gathering consisting of students, Teachers, Friends and Principals of various schools around Mussoorie.Ruskin Bond gave autograph to the fans in a thank you gesture.

 Hirday Gupta from St Gregoris High school Chembur Mumbai flew from the tinsel town to wish Ruskin Bond said that he was attracted to the simplicity, Versatlity and disposition in Ruskin’s writing.Hriday has read Rusty first book, “Children Omnibus” and many other titles by the same author. Mother of Hriday, Aanchal Gupta was immensely pleased to be here for the celebration and said that His son was introduced to Ruskin Bond’s book in December and since then the author has caste a magic spell on his son that she was forced to catch flight from Mumbai for the occasion.

Aanchal Gupta was of the view that Ruskin Bond stories are liked by children because of they are easily understood by them and said that his son has developed taste for writing himself after reading Ruskn Bond. Now he makes it a point to catch hold of any new book written by Ruskin Bond.

Principal Aryan School Dehradun Mrs Cherry Jain was also delighted to be in Mussoorie for the birthday celebration along with the students Rushmika XII,Shubham Aggarwal,Rohit,Avik,Nischal,Niranjan,Tejpal and Lakshmi.Rushmika also presented a flower bouquet to the author and wished him a long life. She added further that “Room on the Roof” was her favorite book so far. Tibetan Homes Foundation students honored the author with a white scarf symbol of peace and Love on the occasion. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Principal Apple Grove School Saharanpur, Aarti Seth was also present along with her family and presented Ruskin with bouquet of Red Roses on the occasion. Aarti said that it was inspiring to be here and said that Ruskin Bond had visited Sharanpur during book fair and it was there her children were introduced to Ruskin Bond’s writing.She also said that Authors like Ruskin Bond are great motivation for the budding writers as the simplicity of words makes it easy to grasp for the children.Aarti also said that she had brought gfts like chocolates For Ruskin Bond.Another renowned author and a friend Ganesh Shaili also wished Ruskin Bond hundred more years of wring and hoped that the author would keep on delighting his readers with new adventures in form of book. Students and Principal from Mussoorie Public, St Clares, and Hampton Court ,Woodstock School also wished the Author on his birthday. Sunil Arora the owner of Cambridge said that early in morning he went to the author’s house and wished him on his birthday along with his family consisting of LD Arora, Surendar Arora, Shashi, Rajni Arora and Kanika Arora.

Sunil Further added that this outpouring of emotions indicated amount of love readers had for the author and his works. He also said that it was a great honour for town of Mussoorie to have Padam Shree awardee as their resident and this was a small token of love from the family.Pujya Mata Sawinder Kaur of Nirankari Mission also wished the author on his birthday and bought books and autograph for her grandchildren on the occasion.Madhu Mussoorie Jot Singh Gunsola, Spokes Person Mussoorie Hotel Association Sunny Sahani and others were also present on the occasion.

 

 Later Speaking to the media Ruskin Bond said that BirthDays are great events in life of a person and if children can persuade their parents it should be celebrated at least once a week instead of once year. When asked how he felt about Children buying his books in such large number he replied that he felt sorry for their Parents who have to spend money on the Books. Talking about his new venture the “Diary of School Master” He said that it is funny but exciting tale of a school master which reader will like immensely. He further said that it was very encouraging to see the Children reading books and said that infact the kids were reading more than he read in his childhood in spite the onslaught of media and Internet. He hoped that some of them would go on to become great writers and Citizen of the country. The children were the most excited lot and the store did a brisk business on the occasion which was a heartening sight in the age of computers.  Ruskin Bond has written more than 75 books till now and some of his favorite books are “Children Omnibus”, Room On the Roof, Delhi is not Far, A Flight of Pigeons, The Lamp is Lit, Rusty Goes to London, A season Of Ghosts, Roads to Mussoorie and a collection of Short stories which are now a regular feature in Garhwal Post. His Story “Blue Umbrella” and “A flight of Pigeons have have been converted into feature films”.
