Russia and Cuba warm up bilateral relations. They will engage in energy cooperation not resume Russian military presence in the Caribbean island.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has announced Moscow's intention to increase relations with the Latin American country of Cuba. "We've overcome the pause that appeared in our relations in the past decade and today our contacts are intensive and friendly," Itar-Tass news agency quoted Medvedev as saying during a meeting with visiting Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque. Perez Roque, whohas been in Russia since last Saturday on an official visit, gave Medvedev an invitation from Raul Castro to visit the island. The Russian President, who said that Moscow and Havana cooperate actively in bilateral and international political spheres, stressed the need to give more attention to developing economic ties. Roque rejected the possibility of resuming Russia's military presence in Cuba but vowed to boost energy cooperation and economic ties. SG/RE. Original source at PressTV

Interesting, now that Venezuela and Russia have build up a new relation Cuba would be a logical next step. However I was not aware that Cuba and Russia had broken their long standing relations even after the fall of the Soviet Union.

That's what I was thinking too, Paschen. Was there ever a pause?

Just like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup: two great countries that taste great together. Russia abandoned Cuba - as they did all of the former Soviet Union when they went broke after the US orchestrated economic collapse - so it is a long time coming that relations are going back to normal.

Well the russians will drink a Cortadito cuban coffee. And WDC gets the pain in the neck.
