Budget airline Ryanair is considering bar stools instead of regular seats for all flights.

The Dublin-based airline will charge less for flight tickets, but if the plan goes through, passengers will essentially be standing.

Passengers would pay less to huddle next to what have been described as “bar stools”, with seatbelts around their waists.

Michael O'Leary, Ryanair's chief executive, said each plane could carry up to 50 per cent more passengers while cutting costs by 20 per cent.

The airline will have to gai approval from the Irish Aviation authority before the planes can be reconfigured, according to the Sun.

"If they approve it, they'll be doing it," O'Leary said.

The proposal comes four months after Michael O'Leary, Ryanair's chief executive, said he might charge passengers £1, or about $1.80, to use bathrooms on his aircraft. The idea was quickly dismissed by a Ryanair company spokesman.
