The suspence of sex of SA sportsman(or woman) is over.

Athletics South Africa's (ASA) president Leonard Chuene has apologised for denying knowledge of gender tests conducted on runner Caster Semenya.

ASA is carrying out an inquiry into their handling of the affair and Chuene says his denial of the tests were to protect the 18-year-old's privacy.

There has been much speculation over the Semenya's gender since she won the 800m world title last month.

"I felt I was acting in the best interests of Semenya," said Chuene.
