A two-alarm grass fire in East Sacramento along the
American River parkway had crews scrambling to
contain the wind-driven fire.
Today, around 4pm Sat. Oct 11 I was driving in the
general area of the fire when I saw smoke rising. I
raced to find the source and luckily was able to follow a couple fire trucks that went to the bike/walk path along the American River near Howe Avenue and the Campus Commons Golf Course.
When I arrived I heard the sounds of trees popping from the heat of the fire and the wind drove the flames closer to the bike trail.
Fire crews rapidly began spraying water to douse the
flames while wind carried the fire south.
Crews scrambled to put out fires from traveling embers to protectt structures.
About an hour after the fire crews arrived they gained the upper hand. A bulldozer went in to lessen the amount of available natural fuel for the fire.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Kati Garner, great eyewitness account and photos. Thank you.
I always wonder when there are forest fires about what the animals do that live in the forest and whether they make it out ok. I am a sap though...
