"This is a sad day for Illinois government" says US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald

Listen to a live broadcast about the arrest of Gov. Blogojevich (IL) with Patrick Fitzgerald, US attorney from Chicago (held on 12/09/08)

This is from Chicago Public Radio and will include continuing coverage. In Illinois, the governor must actually step down or be impeached to remove him from power. This is an interesting political issue now because with Barack Obama's election as president, Illinois has an open senate seat which is filled by gubernatorial appointment. Technically, Blogojevich could appoint himself to the job, even as he awaits his trial.

The Chicago Tribune held back on running a story to assist the FBI and the US Attorney's office. Fitzgerald tells reporters not to judge those mentioned in the wiretaps if they are being discussed by others, but nonetheless, the list of groups and individuals brought up in along with indictment is interesting. Hear it live from local public radio (see link above.)

Read the indictment of Gov. Blogojevich for yourself.

"A sad day for Illinois government"?  I disagree with U.S. Attorney Fitzgerald.  It is a wonderful day for government and justice whenever corrupt practices are rewarded with prosecution as they should be.  It is a great day for Illinois and for America when wrongdoers in government and business are weeded out and sent to federal jail.  I'd like to see much more of the same, from Washington, D.C. to Dothan, Alabama and back up through Memphis, Tennessee.

Keep up the good work, federal attorneys!  Many who care about our beloved country applaud any and every effort to weed out corruption and conspiracies and hold officials to honor their sworn commitments to Americans.

I was going to say something similar.  Too bad a lot more such wonderful days are coming soon.  The sheer amount of unaccountable money being poured into the system is bound to produce corruption far beyond anything seen so far.

I find it hard to believe we are going after a Governnor who knows Politics is nothing but money and buying seats. Actually it is like putting your bet on the Stock Market. We will prosecute this guy because he wants the Senate Seat, yet do nothing about the lies Bush did with going to War. We do nothing about the 700b Bank Bailout, while leaving thousands homeless?  We do nothing about Obama refusing to up hold the Constitution when he says he refuses to support impeachment efforts or prosecution of Bush and Cheney for War Crimes? And what about those wiretaps? Doing such things are against the law, and an invasion of private rights a day ago! This looks like a misguided political hunt for excusing the real criminals to me.
