Imminent Islamic Stoning Execution of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani in Iran July 20102_flv

An International Movement to Save Sakine Mohammadi Ashtiani From Death By Stoning in Iran Has Been Launched

She reportedly confessed to the crime of adultery after suffering 99 lashes and now, Sakine Mohammadi Ashtiani, a mother of two living in Iran, could be buried up to her chest and stoned to death.

Mina Ahadi, head of the International Committee Against Stoning and the Death Penalty, says that only an international movement to raise awareness can save the woman now as her sentence has already been handed down.

She was convicted of adultery in 2006 in the northern city of Tabriz, and although she confessed after being whipped, her lawyer told CNN that she then retracted that confession and denied any adulterous act. The ruling was upheld in 2007 by Iran's supreme court.

Amnesty International has now become involved, placing a call to the Iranian government to halt the execution.

"The organization is also urging the authorities to review and repeal death penalty laws, to disclose full details of all death sentences and executions and to join the growing international trend towards abolition,"

Washington has condemned the ruling, and although she has been in prison for a number of years now, her case is gaining more international attention and those fighting on her behalf hope that means she will soon be released from prison and set free of all charges.

On July 1, Stop Stoning Now released a letter saying that the verdict against Sakine Mohammadi Ashtiani should be discarded, and that stoning is a 'savage and merciless form of execution'.

We strongly condemn the Islamic Republic for its barbaric implementation of stoning, execution and torture and its enforcement of Qesas laws. We call upon all international institutions as well as the United Nation and the European Union to strongly condemn the Islamic Republic and demand that Sakine Mohammadi Ashtiani’s stoning verdict be overturned, as well as the verdicts of all others condemned to stoning and execution.

They also call for Iran's leaders to be prosecuted and punished in an international court for allowing tens of thousands of people to be stoned to death and executed.

Obama needs to speak up against this. You're right, the whole UN does. Does anyone know an organization I can join to help stop this?

For Gods sake and every other religion in the world, do not execute this poor woman.  How can a stoning even be considered?  Everyone regardless of colour, religion or creed please pray to YOUR GOD to prevent this barbaric thing happening. x

In order for this law to used on the Iranian people, the people themselves must agree with it and support it. Only the people of Iran can stop this kind of brutality, otherwise they must be held as complicent in the act it self. This woman will die along with countless of others, this is the price a country must pay until it rises up and chooses a better life for its people. This is an old and backward place, where only the strong survive and the weak must obey and suffer. There is no place in our world for them. Build a wall around the entire region and let them devour themselves.

this woman confessed  to adultery  after 99 lashes? what more proof do you people need? if she was innocent she wouldn't have confessed until she broke 100. stone her as a lesson to all women that numbers count.

You ignorant fool. The 99 lashes *was* her punishment. If your intent was to stir up emotion, then your cruel statement worked. I would like to see how you would hold up after 99 lashes that tear and shred your flesh and see that you don't admit to doing what they accuse you of, no matter what it was they accused you of. Heartless person; that you would take the preciousness of life so lightly and play God; you're on the same level as these people govern this country. You should be ashamed of yourself.

You heartless prick! It's people like you that makes this world sick. You don't deserve to live.. Pray that I never ever meet you in Person.. You will regret that you ever wrote something like that for a Girl/Daughter/Mother..

nice emotional rant. to bad you can't read more than you want to see. to really see would not give you excuse to bad talk which you like better. 99 lashes justify confession? maybe higher number mean innocent? see??? no excuse for stupid language for lack of understanding instead reflex emotion outburst rule intellect.

I feel really sorry for you.... judging by your serious lack of understanding of the English language and your seriously warped sense of reality, its easy for the rest of us to see that you are fkn serious moron with an IQ half that of a bohemian fruit fly!! I'm not sure if you should stop sucking gas to come back to earth or if some one should shove a methane tube up your wazzoo then light a match and just get rid of you. Idiot!!

Apparently your blatant sarcasm was lost on these simpletons. We have no business interfering in the internal politics of a sovereign nation, just as we would be seriously and rightly alarmed if the UN attempted to impose police state rule upon us. This rules out dictating compassion to these savages; it does not rule out blowing their criminal regime to Paradise. I would accept a UN coalition agreeing to do this before I would accept UN authority over the Constitution. Too bad the last gang of corporate criminals in The Whorehouse, protected by the current corporate frontmen eliminates our moral high ground to charge any rogue state with crimes against humanity.

This is twisted. You would overthrow a regime and kill many innocents over this one despicable act? I think not. Besides, what the Israeli jews have done to the indigenous Palestinians for 60+ years is exponentially worse, more like the atrocities they accuse the Germans of than the atrocities perpetrated on the natives of North and South America by Europeans. Israel's dominant role in the international drug and weapons trades as well as their future goals makes them a far more disgusting and worthy target for a UN coalition.

This is the most disturbing thing I have ever heard of.  She was tortured and made to confess and now she must also die.  What kind og God would support this kind of barbaric bahaviour?  I know my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ would not.  The United Nations needs to step in and make she that she does not die.  I agree with David A a wall needs to be built around the entire region and let them devour themselves.

I can't believe monsters still existed like this but I guess they do.  You'd think she had murdered somebody or worse.  Grow up Iran!  Otherwise, I suggest your country be left out in the cold because your ways are unfit for a human being.

We need to support the people of Iran. Where was the press after the initial protests last year, where were the big news stations after Neda was murdered, her bleeding body splattered all over YouTube.Where were you armchair war strategists when that happened? What did YOU do to support the new Iranian revolution to help THEM free themselves and overthrow this corrupt government.People in Iran want freedom. Why do you fail them? We fail Palestine, we failed the Afghans, ESPECIALLY the women, and we're failing Iranian civilians.@Dave - old backwards place? You do not even know what you are talking about. People in the metro areas are modern young people who want a better life. Many of them have since been executed, simply for being on the streets during the protests. DO something, instead of just sitting here , making fun of them or a woman who is about to die a very cruel death.@AM - sarcasm maybe, but you failed to include some wit. Which is why it went straight over everyone's head. You guys are disgusting.

So I beg the question: What is the punishment of "men" that stray from the wife? He probably gets "stoned" on opium and receives a pat on the back.

If Iran does this, I call upon the people of every city on earth where there is an Iranian embassy or consulate to stone it. Destroy it.

It is quite appalling that in the 2lst. century such ounishments are legally acceptable. We have developed more humane forms of punishment if it is required or justified but in this case there appears to be little justification for the inhuman treatment of this woman.

I never knew the procedure or really understood the stoning to death form of execution, apart from the absolute wrong of sentencing anyone to death by any means, this is so horrific, how can those men who were part of this whole procedure ever have peace in their minds?  I hope they never have a moments peace for the rest of their lives, no religious belief justifies what they do and their reason for doing it.  I just know how fortunate I am, living in England and, as a woman, being able to live with laws that do not kill me if I manage to find a little happiness.

I am not condoning adultery; it is just none of my business who other people have sex with, that is on their conscience.  Iran, stay out of your people's private lives and let Allah decide. Your government is not made out of Gods even though they act as if they could be.
