Same-sex marriage debate and states arguments is a hot topicand is not going away.Obama ran on a platform promising to repeal

the Defense of Marriage Act,as of yet Obama has done little to pushforward legislation.Obama is officially against same-sex marriage but wants

to  make a few changes to the DOMA.Most conservatives are against same-sex marriage citing various arguments based on social harm and moral values they say would be

effected.Advocates of same-sex marriages want the same legal benefitsavailable to heterosexual couples. This is a very fragile and complicated issuethat must be studied from an economic and sociological stand point. The

same-sex marriage debate and legal laws have created more stress on theLGBT(lesbian, gay,bi sexual, trans gender) community. The current administration also wants to repeal the "Don't ask ,Don't tell" legislation used in the army to ban gay

recruits.Personally I am opposed to same-sex marriage not because it is wrong or rightbut because it sends the wrong messages to young children.I do not think it is a good time for this ,maybe down the road we

can take a closer look at it but I think it is not the right time to do a federal change.Current same-sex marriage states were theunion is fully legal are Massachusetts,Iowa, and Connecticut.Vermont will except same-sex marriage on September

1,2009,in Maine September 14,2009 if not public veto,New Hampshire January 1,2010,California has repealed,New York andWashington D. C will recognize but not perform same-sex marriages.

7434be, thank you for this story. Please add an Opinion tag to this story. I would also appreciate it if you would add the tag "sexuality" so your story will also appear on NowPublic's Health/Human Sexuality channel. Too, please use NowPublic's highlight tool when posting/quoting material from outside sources. Thanks!

"Personally I am opposed to same-sex marriage not because it is wrong or rightbut because it sends the wrong messages to young children."

I'm curious, what message would that be? Thanks!

Not sure what opinion tag is I will try to find it .Thanks We have to protect children from being exposed to a complicated issue when dealing with sexuality questions.I think we should let them be able to choose with out outside interference

that a national same sex marriage legislation would create

7434be, You said "I think we should let them be able to choose with out outside interference"

What are you considering outside interference? a pastor that tells them that being gay is "morally wrong & a sin" ? Or what they see on TeeVee like Will&Grace?

Our lives are largely defined by outside interference, Teachers, friends, experience & extended family members all contribute to who we grow up to be.

Do you think that people have a choice about their sexual preference? I didn't get a choice I do know that !

And that comes to the heart of the debate, is it a choice or not? Did you choice your sexual preference?  Did you wake up one day & say "I'm gonna be straight (or gay) when I grow up"  No, you didn't and I've yet to meet someone that will say that they choose to be gay.

Who in their right mind would choose to be a part of a persecuted minority?

So, it's not a choice, does that mean that we have a right to "special treatment" no, but it does imply that we have a right to "Equal treatment".  That includes the right to leave my life insurance to who I wish & to denote whom I like as the execute of my estate.  That includes the right to have my partner consulted when I am not able. (who else knows what I would want?)  That is the REAL CRUX of the issue.
