Samsung to Replace Nokia From Top Spot in Smartphone: Nomura

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, a multinational conglomerate corporation headquartered in Samsung Town, Seoul, South Korea, is going to end the 14-years of rule of a Finnish mobile maker Nokia. Keilaniemi, Helsinki based Nokia failed to catch up with technological advancement in smartphone.
According to Nomura, Japanese financial conglomerate, Samsung will become the largest smartphone maker by end of current quarter ending the Nokia's 14-year reign since 1996. It is not just Samsung that with be largest maker of smartphone but Apple Inc will push Nokia to third spot, Nomura said.
Analyst of Nomra said in a research note, “In 1996 Nokia launched the Communicator and the smartphone market that it has led in unit terms ever since. After about 14-years at the top, Nokia looks set to relinquish its smartphone crown."

Stiff competition from the Korean power house Samsung and American Apple in highend smartphone segment and equally stiff competition in lower-end segment from Chinese and Indian phone maker. Slow pace of innovation added by some wrong technological strategic move led to the fall in market share in last one year.
Apple's iPhone and Google Inc's Android devices made Nokia outdated in this fast changing market.
Nokia still makes more cellphones than Samsung as its has very strong presence in basic cellphone market specially in emerging economies. Strong distribution network added by brand value will give enough time to Nokia to put house in order.
