I've heard rumors about the news predicting that there will be a big earthquake in about 2 weeks in San Francisco and I wanted to know if this prediction is legitimate or just rumors. are there any articlesregarding this "earthquake" ??
At 4:10 PM today, at nearly the same time the SF Board of Supervisors agreed to endorse Ed Lee as interim SF Mayor in a vote of 10 for to 1 against (Daly, duh), the Bay Area was rocked by an South-Bay based earthquake with, says the USGS, a 4.1 preliminary magnitude. According to some, this is just the tip of the iceberg, with another quake predicted the day Gavin Newsom takes office as Lt. Governor.
The epicenter of this afternoon’s quake, the USGS says, was 13 miles east-southeast from San Jose, where it had a depth of 4.4 miles. According to SFist, thus far, no damage or injuries have been reported.
From Berkeley, John says he felt “pretty mild shaking, noises of things shifting but nothing fell off shelves.” he says that he checked with his daughter, at work in single-story building in Santa Clara, and she says neither she nor anyone else in her office felt it.
Apparently people thing that the sea lions leaving the San Francisco piers is a sign of a coming earthquake. This sounds like bull droppings to me, because animals may predict earthquakes by hours, but never by weeks. The science of earthquake prediction has not gotten to the point of predicting specific dates for earthquakes. Most predictions are considered very good if they get the decade right (e.g., Haiti).

Predicting quakes is plus or minus 30 years at best.
