Sarah Palin controversy stokes "Mommy War"
The controversy surrounding Vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin continues to grow. This time her role as a mother is being questioned, igniting a so-called "Mommy War" between working Moms and traditionalists. At question; does Palin have her priorities straight?
Should a 44-year-old mother of five, including a newborn with special needs and a pregnant teenager, take on a job that will keep her away from her home for much of the next two months to eight years?
Nearly two-thirds of American mothers with preschool-aged children were in the labor force in 2003, according to the latest government figures. Women rich and poor, famous or not, grapple with the same issues and public perceptions.
The Republican Party's conservative base, having worked to co-opt moral issues for their political cause, so far has rallied around Palin and her daughter despite its promotion of abstinence education and traditional families.
With more than two-thirds of American mothers having to work to support their families questioning Palin's role as a caregiver seems like a low blow. If Palin were a man would responsible parenting even be an issue?

I have no doubt Sarah Palin, or any mother, can juggle work and motherhood. But what mother - no what parent - would subject their teenage daughter, who has made a life-changing mistake, to the scrutiny of the nation?!!!! That to me is VERY BAD JUDGMENT!!!

I'm guessing Palin is exercising pre-emptive damage control. Now that her family's private matters are out in the open and public knowledge it can't be used against her by Obama and his minions.
