Sarah Palin Ethics Probe: Investigator Rules Against Alaskan Gov

An independent investigator hired by the Alaskan state personnel board says Sarah Palin used her position for personal gain.

The controversy involves Sarah Palin's creation of the Alaskan Fund Trust to secure benefits and receive improper gifts. The report comes only a few days before Palin is set to step down as governor of Alaska.

The fund was set up to pay off debts stemming from numerous ethics complaints against her, most of which were dismissed. Palin says she owes more than $500,000 in legal fees and the fund has been frozen pending a review.

A report obtained Tuesday by the Associated Press said Gov. Palin is securing unwarranted benefits and receiving improper gifts through the Alaska Fund Trust, set up by supporters.

An investigator for the state personnel board says in the July 14 report that there is probable cause to believe Gov. Palin used or attempted to use her official position for personal gain because she authorized the creation of the Alaska Fund Trust as the "official" legal defense fund.

Now that has to hurt.

I hope that puts an end to Presidential ambition.

Then again, nothing would surprise me any longer.

Oh I love Sarah. What I love even more is the economist bashing Sarah. Dry British humor is the best for making fun of hill billies.

Actually, as a spokeswoman for the Tenth Amendment Movement, she is much more valuable. She shouldn't be president, but, then again, I doubt her choices would be worse than Obama's have been so far.

Rob, I think that your story perhaps inadvertently distorts the situation, making it seem graver than it really is.

The rest of the article includes this information:

Kristan Cole, the fund's trustee, said organizers have frozen the fund pending the personnel board's review. Many federal politicians, including Hillary Clinton, former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens and others are routinely allowed to have such funds to pay off legal bills, but quirks in Alaska law can present ethics issues.

Mr. Van Flein said the potential loss of money from the fund had absolutely no bearing on Gov. Palin's decision to resign.

He said Gov. Palin received the report 11 days after her July 3 announcement that she was leaving office. He also noted that the investigator recommended the governor seek reimbursement from the state for the cost of fighting ethics complaints that have been dismissed.

"It's cheaper for the people of the state of Alaska to have the bills paid for through the trust fund," Mr. Van Flein said. "But if that can't be done, then it looks like the state of Alaska could pay."

The investigator, Thomas Daniel, suggested that Alaska lawmakers may need to create a law that reimburses public officials for legal expenses to defend complaints that end up being unfounded.

From reading your various comments, I conclude the following:

  1. There is no subject on which you do not hold an opinion and wish to share it
  2. There is no issue on which you admit any shade of gray. You are always sure of what is right
  3. You frame your opinion as if it is judicial ruling. There can be no doubt allowed, it is akin to the voice of God and absent humility
  4. You are prolific in your commentary
  5. There is nothing about which Obama (who you allege is not an American citizen) is correct, and even someone as intellectually, if not ambition, challenged as Palin is more likely to pick the correct choice.

You may want to pause, just once in a while, and examine a contrary view of the matter. There is no man made that is right all of the time and on every subject.

Plainly, this falls into the category of attacking ad hominem when you can't beat the actual argument. You threaten "loss of love", "exile". Why don't you actually try to debate the subject.

I just got done doing an article last night where I didn't profess to knowing the answer to the question. Did you read that one?

If no man is right all the time on every subject is a universal thought, can we apply it to Obama as well?

Being corrected so successfully has gotten a bit tedious, no? Your little gem, which violates the NowPublic rules of personal attack,  is the best example of projection I have ever seen at this website.

But, really, the post is about how you have a problem with being corrected. Your notion that Palin had finally been gotten has been jettisoned into the rubbish pile. Another time that orthodoxy hasn't cut it.

What is it about reading the whole article and getting the reporting right that doesn't sit well with you? Believe me, I don't need the answer. I was raised around left-wing ideologues and lived my young adulthood in Berkeley.

Frankly, many on the left who have no  training at all, whatsoever, in the discipline of reaching reasoned judgments based on facts are "easy pickings" for lessons in smashing the icons of the left.

About Obama being correct. Obama is correct that we needed/could use a stimulus package, and that we need medical reform, but like you on the left, he lacks the education and emotional discipline to actually go about doing it correctly, that is, without making the situation worse..

So, those who worship Obama as an idol and as an anti-dote to their own Weltschmertz, their own depression about being stuck in this dysfunctional world, find such exercises in iconoclastic thought disturbing, because it throws you back into your depression.

What is really happening is that the more extreme left is hitting "rock bottom" as AA would call it. Next comes....?

No it doesn't but the next one does

But, really, the post is about how you have a problem with being corrected
