NP Rank:
The Sarah Palin Speech at the RNC.
By, Uwe Paschen.
Now, I am certainly not a friend of the Republicain lately, especially after a decade of deceit, Wars, and Manipulations by the Bush Administration.
However, All animosities aside, I followed the US campaign closely, including all the mod slinging and insults that may have come around from either side without discrimination nor scruples.
As I washed the Sarah Palin speech and the conventions reaction, I have to admit that the Republican Party did some great PR work and even though her speech was rather simple and lacked real political contend, it was the sort of speech America likes to hear and trust in.
She spoke well and with confidence, unshaken by recent events or accusations. Her Family behind her in a happy united manner as America loves it. "We stand as one, no matter what may be thrown at us," This is what America wants to see and hear even if the words are never spoken as such, it is the symbol, the image that tells it all.
Mc Cain showing up at the end, embracing the Kids and Palin was a display of Family symbolism and unity even in crisis at its very best. Well played, using a blow to their own advantage by playing on Family values.
Even though those values may be far from reality, America like its fairy tails and happy endings "a la Hollywood." Like a good old Cinderella movie or Dean Martin movie, it was simply perfect.
The American dream of happy families united after a fight and making up on a sunny afternoon over a nice BBQ with friends and nabbers alike. Of course all where there, even the National anthem, carefully orchestrated so that no one could feel left out, Man, Woman, Youth, Black, White, Hispanic, it was perfect.
Who would not want a great Mom, even though not perfect maybe, yet so self less and loving, even forgiving towards her children and future Son in Law. And John Mc Cain the Good old Grand Dad, in a matter of speaking, that hugs them all and stands by them in times of adversity. This is America at its best and the way America loves it.
I am sorry to say this, but from what I saw today, I have to admit that I was mistaken. The Republican will win this election and leave Obama and his team in the shadow. Mc Cain and Palin played the right cards and they played them well. I keep underestimating the American love for this sort of Fairy tale.
If this keeps up the Republican will be elected to the White House once more and even if it may hurt the US and the World, it will not mater, for this is what America loves and believes in. The American Dream will prevail, no matter the cost or reality.

McCain is not Bush but Obama is a little Ayers.

Well, PR is the modern American love story. Even though most Americans know that they are being fed carefully manufactured/molded news every day from both sides of the aisle, we continue to love a good looking campaign instead of one that has more substance. Not to say that Obama is just manufactured, or without substance, but the candidates that many of us truly want into office will never get there because they don't have the right public image.
I would say that McCain is without substance though...

Hi Paschen, I think we have two post on Sarah Palin speech. I don't know which one is first. But it would be great if we could make it just one post.
at 20:26 on September 3rd, 2008
Go Palin Go!
at 20:33 on September 3rd, 2008
ya'll remember now, Palin didn't write that crap herself. Her speech writer just met her last week.
She wouldn't have the brains to say some of that stuff on her own.
at 20:33 on September 3rd, 2008
I am not sure if those can be seen as such, Let me know.
Here is a link to JM his post and video.

What a nonsense is this. There are many posts on NP on the same subject. I looked to both and it is not the same.
Paschen has written himself. Good work Uwe !!

Paschen, I like this story. It's good stuff.
I don't agree with you. In the next weeks we will hear a lot more about Sarah Palin and i'm convinced that will be not all good stories. She likes hunting, killing, shooting. She likes more oil drilling, specially in protected Nature. She thinks the war in Irak is a religious task of God??
Sorry, but the USA and the World had already a lot of bad years because mr Bush is Presidents and we know already that he likes war, weapons, killing and more war and more war.
McCain-Palin will continue.
at 20:54 on September 3rd, 2008
I do agree with you comment here Milieunet, yet even shooting and Oil drilling seems to be okay with the public in the US at the moment because they are afraid and fear make blind.
Thank you for the read, Comments here and Flag, I do appreciate it.

You do make some very valid points here dashDarling. I would tent to agree with your conclusion at this point and from what I have heard so far, yet it does not seem to matter much, or does it?
at 21:17 on September 3rd, 2008
Paschen -- You began your piece this way:
What a load of crap!
And, Milieunet, get your eyes checked! To rate this article as "Good Stuff" totally defeats the purpose of the NowPublic rating system -- unless, that is, we're going to start ranking people for effort while ignoring poorly-written, half-baked commentary.

Y'all don't go jumpin' conclusions now, ya hear?
For many here, shooting has been a way of life since childhood. Some shoot or hunt casually, some not at all and some are extremely passionate about it. Not every home has a gun. Some have an arsenal.
For most, it is a sport. Some go for self protection. Some just enjoy it. Some obsess about it. You have the same or similar degrees of participation in about everything from model trains to china collecting to computers.
Those who don't own guns may simply have no desire, may be afraid of them, may have had bad experiences with them and a small minority may not be allowed due to criminal convictions or mental instability (yes, denial for the latter hardly ever happens).
As for the oil, it's no so much a question of whether, but a question of where. Oil companies and their lackey politicians are trying to whip us into a frenzy of allowing drilling anywhere the oil companies please because of high gasoline/petrol prices. If such drilling had any effect on the price, it would not be for years and maybe decades. The oil companies and their lackey politicians also fail to mention that the oil companies are sitting on thousands of oil leases right now on land where they can start drilling tomorrow without asking anyone, yet they are not doing it.
Finally, not all of us have been whipped into a frenzy where we are afraid of our shadow and have to vote for the tough-talking politician so we will be protected. Some of us want the politicians who say let's get up on our hind feet and do something about it.
After all, John Wayne never really went to war. He stayed in Hollywood making pictures while everyone else went to war. James Stewart, the soft-spoken hero, actually saw combat. John Wayne, just like Dick Cheney, got special deferments.
Tough talking isn't always followed up by guts.

"Get your eyes checked!" - to me - does not seem to add to the discourse and may possibly violate the code of conduct.
Thanks.

What gets me is integrity doesn't matter. Truth doesn't matter. And there is no law. And they call that freedom! Republicans should change their name to the Hypocrisy Party. Frankly who cares what they do......we can't seem to stop them killing people, or destroying the planet....What I can say when they kill me...is that I didn't give into their lies, didn't give into their hypocrisy, and didn't accept their phoney lies about 911, and the ignorant lies they feed us about American History. I didn't give them my support for their lies to war and their killing of innocent people, and I didn't give them my vote. If I am the bad guy......at least I don't know it. McCain and Palin may lead America to hell, but they sure aren't going to see me there with them..KMA.

Paschen, I like this story. It's good stuff. Good honest commentary about how you were moved by Gov. Palin's speech. The press lashing out is just a confirmation that they are a bit worried about tis candidate that rounds out the Republican ticket.
While she was not my first choice, mid-America wil relate to her. McCain has upset the Right wing of the party many times, thus the excitement was lacking until the Palin addition to the ticket. Just reading the blogs I can see that the left is worried.
My favorote line in the speech was, "what is the differance between a hockey mom and a bull dog... lip stick"
at 22:03 on September 3rd, 2008
Just to clarify, McCain is one of the few Republicans who concider Global warming a real problem.

Thank you for the comment djermano, it is appreciated. I look at all this as an observer and try to analyse it, I am not supporting it, just reporting what is. Why this is not an Opinion Post.
at 07:28 on September 4th, 2008
Thank you for the comment BMCWrites, Form the comment you made I have to conclude that you have read the hole post, and understood it. My apologies if I offebded the Republican. :) You may want to abstain from insulting people that comment on my Post Though, especially being a News Wrangler as you are, I would expect a much higher standard and ethics from you then any one else, unless you like to give up the title.
at 00:10 on September 4th, 2008
I think you may not have understood the Post nor the comment. And yet I may not have phrased them correctly or clearly either.
I do appreciate the comment and understand the high and volatile emotions that this election is waking up in most of us around the World and especially in the USA.
I do agree with the larger part of your comment, however as far as Guns go, no way. I know guns and War, learned to handle them and use them and yet It is not a sport nor a game, it is dead serious and insane to even support guns in any way shape or form. And that would be my Opinion. Thanks for the input dunkelberg.

Paschen, I like this story. I do not agree with your opinion. To retrigger the old american dream of the "Lazzy family with the Pick-up truck", now living in Alaska....soap opera. The world is not sharing this US culture any more. Americans beaten by a 5 years war syndrom may like this message; the rest of the world sees Americas good bye. McCain has no team and is to old to transfer America back out of the oil/war economy to the Civil Lazzy society. The sex appeal from some candidates, O.K, maybe Paschen you got a victim too as I see; but economy is no Marilyn Monroe trip. Same is true for Obama, he has no economy team, dependant on consultants. At the end, the roman empire hedge fund disease, first US wall street sup-prime scam bankers going to prison. People vote for the past, not existing any more. World goes ahead multipolar. The Cadillac goes for the last hunt for a barrel of oil destroying Alaska, he choose a sexy woman to tell the devil's message, not seeing the "Hurricane Alley" destroying America by climate change. Good night, I don't waste my time with degenerated oil war lords celebrating their final count down to hell, inviting the ROW. By the way you made an amazing Opinion U-turn staying aside with Russia and now with.. it's your choice.

SOLARLIFE, I appreciate the comment and flag, however I did not write an OPINION Article, rather an observation of the events and the reactions of the people present to this event. I did state as you do here in your comment that should they pool it off and get elected, the World would suffer and the USA would most likely suffer as well. Yet if this Hollywood stile feel good fairy telling and soap opera takes, they may end up winning this election, regardless what You or I may think or want. This Soap Opera Alaskan stile seems to take and will be hard to counter. Facts and reality do no longer seem to matter and that is worrying, yet it is a reality of American politics and the Voters are very easily taken by such charades. You need to read between the lines. I made no U turn what so ever, read the Post again. It is a warning rather then an endorsement. I am still with Russia though as you questioned it. Maybe I was somewhat to sarcastic or subtitle here. Since I am usually rather blond and heads on. Yet I did try to be more Diplomatic. The irony though is that either side, the Pro and the Contra read this as an attack on their side and fail to see the real meaning of this Post. I must have managed to write it in a way that neither can agree nor disagree. I a way what I wanted only the other way around.

Thanks Paschen for explainer, you made a screenshot of the actual stuation, as seen by many Americans, rather than your opinion ( good idea as non-voters we should not give voting recommendations). Thanks ....I added this comment from ressonant earth on dunkelberg's article. Think he made a good analysis of soap opera speech writing. I hope this is ok.

This is important information because if you listen to any of those speaches where the POLITICIANS are proclaiming AMERICA FIRST, you might get the impression that they are genuinely concerned and interested in America and AMERICANS. You are supposed to get that impression as it was maufactured by powerful people who know what ignorant people like to see and hear. SO THEY WRITE SPEACHES THAT SPEAK TO YOUR EMOTIONS, AND IT WORKS, THEY GET PAID BIG BUCKS TO DO IT....SO THE SAME GUY WHO WAS PAID TO DEFAME McCAIN IN THE PAST HAS BEEN HIRED WORK IN THE HIS CAMPAIGN TO HELP HIM. {ding}
PAY ATTENTION!!

I do not yet know much about Mrs. Pallin. But I think she showed us who she is, by not pulling punches on her views on terrorism, taxes, Obama's lack of leadership and his questionable political connections, energy, family, and her own path in small town politics to the Alaskan Govenorship. That she sold the luxury jet, and eschewed the personal staff chef in Juneau, says alot about who she is. She ran and beat an incumbent Republican Governor as the Alaskan people, and indeed the American people are fed up with business as usual. Sir, you do not know Mrs. Pallin either. Do you know the heart of Obama? Of course not, he is the creation of the DNC.
at 06:05 on September 4th, 2008
You are too easily swayed by the events of the moment. Wait a little while. Even the evangelicals will see that Palin may fit their definition of a good person but not their definition of commander in chief.
at 06:07 on September 4th, 2008
She is not gay. Vote Obama

Homophobic comments such as this and others from "B Ayers" violate the code of conduct and reflect poorly on the GOP's already battered image.
