In comments posted on her Twitter page, Sarah Palin is encouraging Dr. Laura not to quit her syndicated radio show. Here's an sample of two posts:  Dr.Laura:don't retreat...reload! (Steps aside bc her 1st Amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence"isn't American, not fair")Dr.Laura=even more powerful & effective w/out the shackles, so watch out Constitutional obstructionists. And b thankful 4 her voice,America!

Sarah Palin is trying to convince us that poor Dr. Laura is having her 1st Amendment  freedom of speech rights infringed. To the contrary, what is happening here is that Dr. Laura has made a personal decision to quit her radio show at the end of her contract. Rather than stand up for her 1st Amendment rights Dr. Laura is taking the easy way out. She's quitting in the face of a strong backlash by critics that merely pointed out the obvious

In a response to Palin's comments, Salon's Joan Walsh commented: It's scary to think we just had a vice presidential nominee who doesn't understand the Constitution, who thinks Schlessinger's First Amendment rights "ceased 2exist" because she was criticized for haranguing a black woman who called for advice, using the word "nigger" 11 times. Again, Gov. Palin, the First Amendment protects us from government infringing on our speech rights; it doesn't take away other Americans' right to criticize.

I don't know about you, but it seems to me that whenever conservatives get themselves in trouble by doing or saying something stupid, they play the victim in the affair. All this happy talk about taking personal responsibility, is just that. Happy talk.

Words have consequences...No one took her 1st Amendment rights away, she was quietly asked to resign...because of her words that have consequences...

Now Dr. Laura who is NOT a Doctor can continue her work where ever she can get hired or she stand on a street corner with a megaphone...She has the money, she can start her own radio show on the internet...Her 1st amendment rights are still there for her...

Saint Sarah of Wasilla, Her words have consequences which is why she and McCain are where they are now...

Sarah Palin's racism is alive and well in the Republican Party.

I think Dr. Laura is right, it's true Afro-Americans can throw the N word around like it is a badge of honor among each other, if it's so offensive why do they call each other by that name?  they themselves should not use that word either! yet let a non African-American say it and all hell  breaks loose. How can the Afro-American race be so offended by what she said when it was not said in a negative way or tone?Do you see other races causing a stink when they are called Wetbacks, Crackers, White boys, Slant eyes, Flippers, Rag Heads and Wops? I am sure there are many more offending names for human beings of different races, why do we accept these names being said in public?I feel that when all races can learn to live with and look at each other as HUMANS and not colors we will all be better off !

That is not the point at all. If Dr Laura was right, why did she say her actions were wrong? The story here is about Sarah Palin claiming that Dr,. Laura's 1st Amendment rights were/are being violated. Nothing could be further from the truth, and it is yet another clear example of Sarah Palin's distorted view of what the 1st Amendment means.
