I'm glad to hear the intensity of the fires did not reach the "pyro" levels anticipated. It will be interesting to read the reports that are filed by some of the scientists who went to Saskatchewan to observe.

The entire population of Deschambault Lake was evacuated Wednesday when a forest fire was burning only two kilometers away from the townsite and causing heavy, thick smoke.

Three days later, elected officials have decided the 900 or so residents can return home because the town is once again safe for habitation, though the nearby fire has not yet been extinguished.

"We've just received word about five minutes ago that the entire population will be returning home," said Cathy Bulych, director of emergency support services with Social Services.

Deschambault Lake residents will begin the drive home Saturday night, with priority individuals - the sick, the elderly or mothers and young children - leaving last to allow the smoke more time to clear.[/q]
