Pakistan to allow sharia in a deal with Taliban

The government of Pakistan has accepted to Taliban demands and Islamic shariah will be enforced in parts of Pakistan. The move is being seen by analysts as a blackmail tactic against the new US administration, which grappling to fix its economic woes.

The black laws include complete subjugation of women -- under Shariah a woman is considered a male's property that can be used in any fashion. Other medieval laws include amputation of hands for stealing. There is also a total ban on dance and music, while mingling of sexes is forbidden.

One clause calls for stoning to death for fornication.

The government agreed to implement Islamic law and suspend a military offensive across a large swath of northwest Pakistan on Monday in concessions aimed at pacifying a spreading Taliban insurgency there.

The announcement came after talks with Islamist groups, including one closely linked to the Taliban.
