Scapegoating of Jews and Wall Street

In even the more respectable circles, there has been much clamor about Jews on Wall Street. The Jewish bankers have been blamed for the Wall Street scandals and collapse. There is only one thing that needs to be said to people who have such beliefs, and it is as follows:

If Jews are responsible for Wall Street collapsing in 2008-2009, then they are also responsible for Wall Street growing in capitalization ten times since 1980. Which means that a vast portion of America's boom that preceded the crisis of 2008-2009 is owed to the Jews.

Of course we will not hear such things from the people involved in this attack. The prosperity of 1980s and 1990s are supposedly the merit of America - particularly of the people who most loudly claim to be America and the rest of America (including the Jews) not to be. Supposedly it's "money talks BS walks"; supposedly it's "America: love it or leave it"; supposedly America being prosperous is the favor of God or a product of Republican policies or a result of American people's common sense and virtue and responsibility. So that when the same system, run by the same people, has a crisis, then it could not possibly be the fault of the same people who got credit for the prosperity in the first place. No. It must be damn Jews.

The Jewish people have a long and rich history of encountering vicious ingratitude for their contributions to the countries in which they have resided. America has had strong influences to guide it away from this path, the result being that America hosts more Jewish people than does Israel and has richly benefited from their contributions - in science, in medicine, and in business. There is an easy logical step to refute all the arguments of the Jew-scapegoaters, and I hope that more people use it in dealing with people who have such beliefs. But history being the guide it may take more than logic to correct their destructive effects in society.
