Workers complete the day without incident

I spoke with a worker who drives into an area struck by violent rioting. The worker was able to attend to business though community residents are very anxious. Shops are shuttered closed. Street traffic is light. The neighborhood has ground to a halt while criminally bent are likely seething and waiting to pounce on more opportunity to rob and destroy.

Observers tell me that much of the steeling is for shoes and clothing that residents may not otherwise afford. They are exploiting the moment.

While there is sympathy for the plight of people, there can be no tolerance for looting and law breaking.

Citizens may collaborate to protect their community via a program established for that purpose.

“Independent Advisory Group

City Of London Police set up an Independent Advisory Group (IAG) after a number of high profile incidents in London.

A number of reports subsequently produced after these incident highlighted the need of a greater link between the Police and the community and the way to achieve this was through the development of an IAG.

An IAG is made up of a diverse group of people independent of the police service from differing communities who monitor, observe and advise on aspects of policing which affect the broader community e.g. the service that is offered.

What will the IAG do?

Advise the City of London Police on critical incidents.

Advise on City of London Police policy and high impact issues concerning Black and Minority communities e.g. Stop and Search, recruitment and retention of officers.

Advise on operational and tactical policing issues.

Interact with the community the City of London Police serve to help promote an inclusive approach.

If you would like any further information on the City of London Police Independent Advisory Group or would like to become involved please contact the IAG co-ordinator, Beryl Cooper at the Race and Diversity Unit on 020 7601 2575.”

People are terribly worried. Police and authorities must work hard on a community by community basis to restore order and stability. I sense that this has yet to happen.

Mayor Livingston seems to be handling the situation properly, though the Cameron government may be the root cause. That is why rioting is spreading in the UK, IMO.
