THREE newcomers have been elected councillors in the City of North Vancouver.
Rod Clark, Guy Heywood, and Mary Trentadue will join incumbents Pam Bookham, Craig Keating, and Bob Fearnley on council, according to unofficial results on Saturday night.
Incumbent Sam Schechter lost his seat by fewer than 100 votes, finishing in seventh place behind Fearnley. Bookham topped the polls with 11.8 per cent of the vote, followed by Keating.
Six-year trustee and outgoing chairman Chris Dorais loses his seat on the North Vancouver school board.
According to early results, fewer than 18 per cent of registered voters - 5,540 people - cast votes in this election.
Darrell Mussatto ran unopposed in the mayoralty race and was re-elected by acclaim. In the school trusteee race, chairman Chris Dorais lost his seat after finishing in fourth place. Dorais' campaign was embroiled in controversy after it was revealed that he is currently facing drunk-driving charges and had not disclosed the fact to the school district or the board.
Linda Buchanan, Susan Skinner, and Mary Tasi were elected as school trustees for the city.
Results from the city were available within 20 minutes after polling stations closed at 8 p.m.
