Scintar Buenviaje Mejia 'Jumps To His Death' After Cocaine Arrest at Ninoy Aquino Airport

Lt. Commander Scintar Buenviaje Mejia, an officer in the US Navy, jumped to his death while in custody after he was arrested at Ninoy Aquino Airport for cocaine possession.

Scintar Buenviaje Mejia was stopped at the security checkpoint after a sachet of white powder was found in his bag. Mejia denied that the powder was his, and claimed that he was set up. While being escorted to the toilets by a security guard, Scintat Buenviaje Mejia jumped from a second-floor staircase. He was pronounced dead from head injuries at  San Juan de Dios Hospital. This, according to police.

Scintar Buenviaje Mejia Was Not Carrying Cocaine

However, according to the Philipine Drug Enforcement Agency, the white powder was not cocaine or any other illegal drug. This raises the question of why a man would attempt suicide, or try to escape custody, if in possession of a legal substance. Was the package actually planted in Mejia's bag? Had he agreed to carry the packet on behalf of someone else? Did he really jump from the staircase?

Superintendent Manuel Pintado III of the Philippine National Police - Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) said Lt. Commander Scintar Buenviaje Mejia was set to depart for Los Angeles Sunday night but was held at the pre-departure area of the NAIA Terminal II.

A sachet suspected to contain cocaine was reportedly found in his possession after he passed through the X-ray check.

The 35-year-old Fil Am, however, reportedly denied possessing the sachet and alleged he was being set up.

Lt. Cmdr. Scintar B. Mejia is the first cousin of my cousins and was our neighbor in Urdaneta, Pangasinan (Barangay Nancamaliran East). He is the Grandson of the Late Atty. Prudencion Mejia Sr. and Atty Guillerma B. Mejia (MAR- Legal Counsel Region I). I saw him when he was a little boy learning to walk, until the time he was struggling to finish high school education. He even push cart loaded with vegetables, fruits and sometimes charcoal and firewood. Then he worked as a Piggery Helper in Manaoag, Pangasinan. He tried everything just to make both ends met. He helped his siblings (2 girls) in their daily needs. His Dad Prudencio Mejia III (Denny) is a Law Graduate of U.P. Diliman. When he found his biological Mom is still alive and was leaving here in California, he contacted her and was petitioned and was brought here in the Land of Milk and Honey (?). He joined the United States Navy. He got the brains and he used it as a tool to go up the ranks with the Military. Unfortunately, he died a meaningless death caused by the Stupid Philippine Police. They didn't even know who the guy is. Maybe he (Scintar) jumped to his death, because of the shame he got in the face of his (former) co-Filipino. Rest in Peace Scintar. Your Cousins (Joanne, James, Jennifer and Marie) are so devastated about your tragedy.... His life  is the exact example of  Former President Cory Aquino's Quote (I rather die a meaningless death, rather than live a meaningless life!)
