kaywood, I like this story. It's good stuff. The closing of any idependent coffee shop is bad - there are not that many left with the global highstreet invasion of corporate coffee shops such as Starbucks etc. Here in the UK there seems to be a slight backlash starting against the corporates with many franchises closing down - there are maybe just too many of them. The thing that compounds the problem is that some other big shop chains do deals to put corporate brands into their shops as coffee stops - be much better if these shops looked to have local businesses inside their shops - some of our big book dealers could do should do this for a start...

Really a shame about this. I hope they find a new space but that is very tough down there in the old Cascade neighborhood. Now that it's "South Lake Union" all there is available are very expensive, huge and mostly empty spaces owned by Vulcan and then old buildings (also mostly owned by Vulcan) set for demolition. Kapow! is iconic. They are an institution in South Lke Union and Vulcan should square off and build out a 100-200 square foot space for them on Westlake or somewhere else in the area, charge them fair market value for the space and let them keep their small independent business. They talk about keeping the character of the neighborhood. It's about time they step up and do something about it. It's not all dollars and cents. At leaset you can still get your shirts at www.ridetheslut.com
