Sonics No Competition for Lakers
Super Sonic Soul’s PN responds to Seattle’s loss the Lakers (111-91) last night and the reaction in the blog-o-sphere. He was quite puzzled by fellow blogger Gary Washburn's comment that the Sonics “competed for 48 minutes” during the game. “Perhaps Mr. Washburn was watching highlights from the late 80s on his laptop, but the Sonics team on the court last night did not come close to matching the intensity of the Lakers.” In addition, it appears as if the Sonics are exaggerating their attendance, claiming a crowd of 17,092. Also strange considering they’ve been “trying to make it look like nobody in this town cares about the team.”
The most “energetic” player for the Sonics was definitely Mickael Gelabale, PN states in the post. “He made plenty of mistakes, but his up and under move in the second quarter was sweet, as were his 21 points.” Francisco Elson was also “a gunner.” Even so, Seattle was by no means a match for the Lakers, whose fans came out to support them. The News Tribune’s Eric Williams said “at least half the crowd was cheering for the Lakers.”
Seattle Comes 3rd in Greediest Cities in America
According to a recent post by Abbey in the Seattlest, Forbes Magazine has ranked Seattle as “3rd greediest, the 4th most lustful, and the 4th most envious city in America.” The results are part of Forbes’ new “Nation's Most Sinful Cities” report. The rankings are based on “measurable methods” for each of the seven deadly. “For example to measure the sin of ‘wrath’ the magazine used murder rates for cities.”
While ranking greed levels, Forbes used their own 400 Lists, “which measures the wealthiest individuals in the United States and tracked which of the major urban areas they call home.” Of course, the Seattle area is home to four very wealthy men: Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Steve Ballmer and Jeff Bezos. “To measure a city’s lustfulness,” Abbey writes in her post, “Forbes tracked contraception and condom purchases at local groceries and pharmacies.” Denver topped the list, and they “apparently purchase nearly 200% more contraception than the expected rate for a city their size.”
Tacoma Angel Network Hits $3 Million in Local Funding
The latest from C R Roberts on Biz Buzz reports that “Paul Ellis, secretary-treasurer of Tacoma Angel Network, and John Dimmer and Larry Kopp, co-counders of Tacoma Angel Network, were recently recognized by the TAN board for their service.” The Tacoma Angel Network has invested $3 million in early-state small businesses in the last two years, which is far beyond early estimates. “A similar group in Bellingham… didn’t reach the same level for 10 years after formation,” informs Kopp.
At a recent TAN meeting, candidates for funding included “companies or firms from Fox Island, Bellevue, Redmond and Beaverton, Ore. Products ranged from software and board games to high-tech devices.” Kopp says that when these companies receive funding, it “inspires other companies who might never have thought the acquisition of outside funds was possible.” It’s a win for the whole community. According to the post, almost 200 companies apply each year, “about 100 are scored and ranked, and about 50 are pre-screened and coached in person.” Twenty-five are selected to present to members, and “fifty percent of these finalists will most likely receive funding - one of the highest funding ratios in the Northwest.”
