Second arrest linked to sex trafficking syndicate
The police have arrested a second man suspected to be linked to the human trafficking syndicate operating in Port Elizabeth‘s Central area.
Humewood police Director Ronald Koll said a 29-year-old Nigerian man directly linked to the recent arrest of suspected syndicate kingpin Henry Okeke had been arrested.
“This guy had a 20-year-old East London woman in his flat in Campbell Street, Central,” he said. “We followed up information from residents and discovered the woman, who had been severely beaten and left with cigarette marks all over her body.”
He said the woman – who is not being named for her safety – had also said the man had promised her a better job and money if she moved to Port Elizabeth. “He then hooked her on drugs and used her to bring in money by working as a sex slave.”
