Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - Commander of the Military Regional Command IX/Udayana Major General GR Situmeang has instructed the Sub-regional military command (Korem) 161/Wirasakti officers to intensify security coordination with Timor Leste in patrolling the border shared by Indonesia`s East Nusa Tenggara Province and the tiny country.

"Korem 161/Wirasakti has handled the border security properly, however the coordination in border security with Timor Leste security officers needs to be intensified," Situmeang said when speaking at the 47th anniversary of Korem 161/Wirasakti here on Monday.

Meanwhile Commander of the Korem 161/Wirasakti Colonel infantry Winston Pardamean Simanjuntak said that he had so far made coordination with security officers of the United Nations as well as Timor Leste in the border area.

"Coordination is crucial necessity and needs to be carried out periodically by the Indonesian Military (TNI) and security officers of Timor Leste as well as the United Nations in order to prevent differences in making policies and actions," Simanjuntak said.

Korem Wirasakti, which is in charge of border security near Timor Leste, focused on possible trespassing, smuggling, and illegal immigrant crossing, he said.

The situation in the border area remained conducive and normal despite the recent attacks in Dili which injured Timor Leste President Ramos Horta. (*) END
