Seeds Of Destruction
When the setting of the Doomsday clock was moved closer to that midnight of what many believe as the worlds Armageddon one can only conjure up ideas of mass destruction and the human race annihilation. We have visions of such disasters when we watch such movies as The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, Deep Impact and of course Armageddon. The scenarios that each movie leaves the audience with are questions of how this could actually happen in our lifetime? In all probability the likelihood of such disasters depicted by Hollywood are not that far from becoming reality. Maybe not in our lifetime but the seeds of destruction have been already planted by man.
Some might say that just like a Hollywood script mankind will advert global annihilation in just the nick of time; or there again, is man on a set course predetermined by events and circumstances beyond our control? In either case right at this precise moment mankind has some really important questions to answer. The continued denial on the existence of Global Warming by certain elected officials, especially the Republicans whose insistence that continued consumption of fossil fuels rarely effects climate change is just one of the many concerns that effects all of mankind. Their assertion that the earth is going through it's normal cycle is typical. This, in the face of undeniable facts that mankind has only accelerated the pace in which green house gasses are causing catastrophic events by undermining the balance of nature.
All through-out history mankind has continued to plague humanity with hideous acts and atrocities against one another. You would think after all we have entered the 21st century that man would finally put down the sword and start using his brain for the betterment of mankind. But, no that is not the case today. In fact the world is as much as it has always been; full of hate, anger, inequality, and oppression. The benevolent side of mankind has yet to take it's rightful place in the behavior of man. The sanctity of life is awash in the blood and tears of the suffering that man continues to inflict upon man and nature. From the beginning mankind is bestowed by our creator with the innate ability to choose, make decisions and learn what is right and wrong that determine life's outcome. It is those decisions that man has made that continues to set the course for mankind.
It has always been in all of recorded history there are those whose decisions enabled them to hide behind cloaks of deception and deceit who are willfully aware of carrying out their heinous intentions. The barbarianism of leaders in ancient times has only continued to cause destruction and mayhem on societies thru the ages. Where the savage and horrific carnage against man and nature continues. It has not been an innate sense of survival that propelled these atrocities, but, a willful, malicious and calculated act of violent domination over man.
Today, the world is again besieged with those who hide behind cloaks of deceit and deception. A world war could be thrust upon humanity at any moment. There are leaders today who seek only power and control over their masses. In Syria, Iran and North Korea are just a few countries whose leaders continue to defy an already oppressed people. All this while the rest of the world awaits that first fuse to ignite still more unimaginable carnage upon all humanity. When General Douglas Mac Arthur so poignantly stated Armageddon will be right at our door step if man can't resolve disputes through peaceful negotiations he has been right all along.
The seeds of destruction already planted? Some would argue that the continued burning of fossil fuels and the reluctance to switch from those fuels which fed the first and second Industrial Revolution is directly linked to mass extinctions. Global warming acceleration by the enormity of consumption of fossil fuel continues to wreck havoc upon man and nature. There are others that point out man's own thirst for power and control only intensifies the wonton devastation through-out the world.
The inadequacy of nations in achieving total commitment toward peaceful negotiations between nations continues to enable those who willfully hide behind cloaks of deceit and deception to cause terror to strike at will anywhere around the world today. We are all at a pivotal point in history. Civilization as we know it is poised on the brink of either falling into the Abyss of caves of the Neanderthal or stepping onto the path of moral rightness where peace and harmony prevail. Mankind must not wallow in compliancy, in a misguided tolerance and a naive sense of security. We must remember that we all have to be diligent students of history. If we fail to learn the lessons that history teaches, history will repeat with more divesting results. The scourge of terrorism, the most malignant scourge of mankind must be forever eradicated if civilization is to survive. We must also relinquish our dependence on fossil fuels which continues to erupt more devastation on the balance of nature.
Lessons learned from history are invaluable tools that enable nations to gain the knowledge to thwart and dispel all who threaten the sanctity of life. There has to be a global resolve to eradicate terrorism of any form and to utilize the fuel of the third industrial revolution to ensure the future of mankind. We must act now with total commitment by each nation to end all the carnage that plagues humanity and threatens the balance of nature.
