MUSSOORIE, 10 Dec:
A large number of intellectuals, political representatives, youth and senior citizens gathered for a Seminar on Communal Harmony and National Integration held in the Palika premises under the aegis of the Yusuf Meherally Centre, Mumbai and Jan Seva and Sadhbhavna Samiti, Uttarakhand.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was eminent Socialist, Freedom Fighter and Director of the Yusuf Meherally Centre, GG Parikh, from Mumbai. He outlined the fact that it was important to unite for nation building and communal harmony in the country. Parikh, who was an associate of Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom struggle, threw light on the life of Yusuf Meharally. He said that Meherally was the person who gave the slogan “Simon Go Back” and “Quit India” during the struggle for freedom. Meherally was a firm believer that national integration and communal harmony would drive India towards an egalitarian society. Yusuf was pro-poor and believed that without addressing the interests of the poor, the nation could not progress. Keeping these views in the fore, the Yusuf Meherally Centre was started several decades ago.
Parikh also stated that the objective of communal harmony could not be achieved without youth participation and it was decided to form the Yusuf Meherally Biradari nationwide.
Parikh also appealed to the intellectuals and youth to join and spread the consciousness of National Integration and communal harmony to all corners of the country. He also said that it was not appropriate to forget those leaders who had laid down their life for the nation.
Eminent author and socialist thinker Jai Prakash Uttarakhandi said on the occasion that the aspiration of the people who destroyed communal harmony by demolishing the Babri Masjid and initiating riots in Gujarat ought to be opposed vehemently. The Principal, Mussoorie Public School, said on the occasion that the thoughts of National integration and communal harmony should begin at home and then school. Criticising the present education system, he said that schools had become commercialised and value based education had taken a back seat, which should not be the case.
Rev. Edwin said on the occasion that communal harmony could be achieved when all human beings would be provided equal respect. Palika President OP Uniyal said politicians have become more rooted in winning elections, which had led to decline in the values of politics. He also opined that politicians had the larger role of unifying people and creating communal harmony, but instead were indulging in fraudulent means. He also said politicians involved in money laundering should be hanged. President, Senior Citizen Forum, RS Mishra praised the efforts of Yusuf Meherally Biradari Centre and said that national integration and communal harmony were the need of the hour and all should join in to strengthen the country. Multinational cos and corporate culture leading the country to economic imperialism: GG Parikh

Eminent freedom fighter, social thinker and Director of Yusuf Meherally Centre GG Parikh speaking to media persons after the seminar on communal harmony said that the multinational and corporate culture was leading to economic imperialism in the country. The govt were making policies attuned to these corporate houses which has led in rising inflation and to break the shackle of these companies boycotting the goods prepared by them was the answer. The farmers are also feeling the pressure of increased prices of seed provided by these multinationals and swadeshi was the befitting answer to all these problems. He also said that adoption of western culture was the root cause of all the prevalent woes which has created a large gap between haves and have-nots. He also said that the Gandhian way of reaching out to the villages was best suited for the country to decrease this gap. Eighty Five Years old GG Parikh said that this was the main reason that he was on streets once again and creating awareness among the masses.
