Senior Tory wants MP pay doubled

A senior Conservative has called for MPs' pay to be doubled - in return for scrapping their second home allowance.

Sir Patrick Cormack says MPs annual pay should increase from £64,766 to more than £130,000.

I have to refocus my eyes sometimes when I read the news. I, like the other 6 billion people who live on this planet have something in common, from our own perspective of things there are just some-things that are beyond idiocy - and, to me, this is one of them.

If you look at that GB pound figure above, double it, that gives you a rough idea in dollars how much UK MPs are paid. $130,000 just for being an MP, not a minister or cabinet member, just an MP. And we have Tory big-wigs who want that doubled. They do so because after the recent expenses scandal so many MPs can no longer claim for a bath plug, leather suits (couch and two chairs) plasma TV for their second homes, interest on their mortgages that the ordinary citizen has to pay. Those homes, by the way, can be sold at a profit and nothing is returned to the public purse, the MP or minister keeps that profit - and some won't/didn't pay the tax on that due to flipping which were their second homes - confusing for the best of us.

Some have said:

Lib Dem Foreign Affairs spokesman Ed Davey said the veteran Tory "must be living on Planet Zog".

Again, you have to agree - they are not living on this planet. Rather than a raise - they should be getting a pay cut, and a big one at that.

It was always seen as a vocation to be in public life way back in the day - now Parliament is seen as a cash cow with the excuse that MPs are under paid in comparison with "other" business leaders.

They are not business leaders - they are MPs who should be representing the people who elect hem, not submitting a receipt for a bath plug that cost them 89p ($1.20).

So much for a recession for the rest of us.

They see themselves as elite, big joke eh.I could tell you a few shocking realities about MPs but I wont am saving them for my manuscript. Arrogant selfish self centred sycophants and predators comes to mind when thinking about goverment and all their little yes men. Better stop now and reach for the sick bag. Greed and the old school tie go a long way.
