2008-09-21 17:41:01 - BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) - Serbian police say nationalists have attacked a gay gathering, injuring three people, including a U.S. citizen. Police official Slobodan Vukelic said Sunday that two attackers have been detained. Human rights groups say masked assailants targeted the so-called Queer Festival held Friday in a cultural center in downtown Belgrade. The groups report that an unidentified American citizen suffered a concussion and a broken arm. The statement adds that two female activists were also injured. The groups are demanding that Serbia's pro-Western government curb extremism to «show they are for democracy, rule of law and respect of human rights

rahul, I like this story. It's good stuff. From what I have "heard" from some Yugoslavs (South Slavs) they do not have a very friendly attitude towards those that are 'different'. Once I was talking to a native Croat visiting; he was boasting about the violence against queers during his country's attempted Pride day, groups of people organised in part by the government helped to attack them in order to cure the country of disease? I guess the term Balkanization has other connotations besides constant blood feuding amongst non- queer groups.
