At a time when Chavez in Venezuela is celebrating his victory to be reelected as many times as he wants, a similar proposal has been brewing in Washington DC for some time.

According to the E Magazine Free Republic and govtrack.us which is a civic project that monitors the activities of the US Congress, Jose Serrano who is a Democrat from New York introduced legislation in the beginning of 2009.

The name of the legislation is H.J. Resolution Number 5 and it is being presented before the 111th Congress of 2009-2010. It is a piece of legislation that proposes an amendment to repeal the article that limits Presidents to two terms.

While inviting Mr. Serrano to be interviewed, this is the proposed legislation reprinted from GovTrack.us by their kind permission.

DISCLAIMER: For the critics who may want to say that I am spouting Republican Propaganda, my response is that I am a Libertarian who wants the truth and did the same type of investigative articles that exposed some truths by Bush. Ijust want an honest and frank discussion.

I like the limit on terms a president can undertake - even if that president is well liked, change is good and healthy for any government I think.

Won't pass and if it passes, then it needs two-thirds of the states to ratify it in less than something like 20 years.

That will never happen.

Never ever should that pass.

Just to keep things straight, and to inform those whose education  may not include American History, there was no term limit to the Presidency until after the tenure of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was elected four times but died before his last term ended.  Prior to FDR, the two term limit was honored only because Washington had refused to serve more, even though he was asked to. It was thus an homage to our first President. Some have theorized that Lincoln might have run for a third term had he not been assassinated. But let's not get so exercised over Serrano's move, because it's not unprecedented.

My education includes American History as well. After all, I was born in the USA. I have also learned world history. I wrote this article in the vein that when a person no matter how good intentioned they are becomes a Chief of State for Life after multiple elections can allow power to corrupt and corrode thinking.

The United States, I love my country. Sure, We have our ups and downs but over all there's no better place to live. I don't see any honest people trying to get out of the USA, there's plenty trying to get in. I would question, Mr. Serrano's motive for wanting anyone to be able to serve for life as president of the USA.

No real American would vote for this..............

I hope you are right but the way things are, it would not surprise me if Mr. Serrano and others would convince the people of America. I also know of people who are leaving who have left.
