Seton Hall Shooting: Jessica Moore Dead, Manhunt For Gunman
An Identified Man Shot Five Students At a Party Near Seton Hall on Saturday, Jessica Moore Was Killed in the Shooting
A manhunt is still on for the shooter who was denied access to a private party near Seton Hall University on Saturday, then returned a few minutes later and shot five students, killing 19-year-old Jessica Moore.
Moore was a sophomore honors student at Seton Hall according to NBC New York, and died as a result of her injuries sustained in the attack. The other four students shot have not been named, but two have been confirmed to have attended Seton Hall and two others go to another local college.
On Sunday, students at Seton Hall left messages of love and tribute to their fellow student Jessica Moore, but students say that they sometimes attend parties in a nearby dangerous neighborhood, and one student called what happened on Saturday 'inevitable'.
Christian Powe, 19, a sophomore and friend of Ms. Moore’s, said Sunday that the students’ common practice of leaving the campus “to party,” sometimes at fraternity-affiliated events in bad neighborhoods, had seemed like a risk that would ultimately have consequences.
“It was just a matter of time; it was almost inevitable,” he said. The buildup to the party was so widespread, he said, that “everyone was talking about it.”
The university has no jurisdiction over a party that takes place off campus, but local law enforcement do work with the campus police when necessary.
The party on Saturday took place near the Valisburg neighborhood, which is a known gang area.
When Jessica Moore was shot, she was trying to help Nakeisha Vanterpool, who was shot in the jaw by the gunman. She has declined to comment on the shooting as her family says she still fears for her life.
