Seven killed in Pakistani suicide attack

Seven people were killed on Monday in a suicide attack aimed at a military checkpost in northwest Pakistan's Swat Valley, military

officials said.

"The attacker prematurely blew himself before he reached the checkpost. Only one soldier was wounded but seven civilians travelling in two cars passing by were killed," said one of the military officials, who declined to be identified


The bombing took place near a security checkpoint in the town of Mingora. At least 30 people were injured.

Reports say that most or all of the dead were civilians.

Government forces have been fighting al-Qaeda and Taleban militants and tribesmen sympathetic to their cause in the restive region.

Officials says, the bomber was trying to approach the checkpoint after bypassing a queue but his car exploded on the way..
