Woman Sexually Assaulted near 29th Avenue Skytrain Station on August 27

A young woman was sexually assaulted while walking home from the 29th Avenue SkyTrain Station in East Vancouver late at night on August 27.

Via VPD Media Relations:

Shortly before midnight on August 27th, the woman, 22, was making her way home along Vanness Avenue when she was approached by a young man on a bicycle. The man, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, followed the young woman for a short time, all the while trying to strike up a conversation.

As the woman reached Moss Street and Vanness Avenue, the man suddenly got off his bike, grabbed the woman from behind and groped her body. The woman’s screams spooked the attacker and he rode off.

Police were contacted and conducted an extensive search in the area, but did not find the suspect.

He is described as an olive-skinned male, possibly Asian, 17-22 years of age, 5’5” tall, with black spiky hair shaved on the sides. He was wearing tan cargo shorts, a T-shirt and running shoes. He spoke English.

Personal Safety Tips

    • Have someone meet you at your transit station if you are arriving home late
    • Use the ‘buddy’ system whenever possible, and walk or jog with a friend
    • Carry a cell phone
    • Report all suspicious people and circumstances to police
