A British man passed away in a Seychelles shark attack that took place on August 17, 2011. Ian Redmond was attacked by a shark while snorkeling near the Anse Lazio beach.

The Seychelles shark attack occurred while Ian Redmond was on his honeymoon with wife Gemma Redmond.

"The loss of Ian has left a gaping hole in our hearts that will never be filled," said Gemma Redmond in a statement.

"We were having so much fun and we were so excited about our future together... He was always calm and collected, strong and brave, witty and intelligent, handsome and caring, a remarkable individual who will be deeply and sorely missed."

Ian Redmond was attacked by a shark while snorkeling. People on a nearby boat tried to rescue him, but to no avail.

A swimming ban at the Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette beaches has been issued in the wake of the Seychelles shark attack.

The Seychelles is a popular tourist destination. Prince William and Kate spent time there on their recent honeymoon.
