Simon Fraser University not too long ago opened its doors for the Surrey campus. It is a marvel of engineering and all together a beautiful school. It is conveniently located on top of Surrey Central mall and not 5 minutes from Surrey's biggest transit hub. Most people were skeptical at first about the location of the new campus, believeing that crime rates in the immediate region (Whalley) were a major concern for the safety of students. Infact, the results are quite the contrary to popular belief.

Since SFU moved in and the mall itself expanded and flourished, the area has seen a decrease in crime. The immediate area around the school is seeing new development almost as fast as the skyline downtown. With a new park, appartment buildings and even several new skyscrapers rising within sight of SFU Surrey. This is truely contributing to the solution to crime in the region.

The school itself is a great idea, it gives access to all those in the fraser valley that wish to attend SFU. The campus itself is expanding over the next few years, with dormitories being build currently one skytrain station or about ten minutes on foot away. Maybe one day, SFU Surrey will even have its own cafeteria as the foodcourt downstairs is meager and over priced.

I myself went to highschool about two blocks away and now attend SFU Surrey. I can honestly vouch for the safety of the region. And who knows, maybe with some time, people will beleive me.
