More details are emerging in the bizarre case of Shannon Mathews. When the girl was reported missing a few months ago the UK was closely following the story and a massive search was launched to find her. But soon it was discovered that the girl had actually been hidden by her mom and an associate in an attempt to extort ransom money.

SCHOOLGIRL Shannon Matthews was drugged and probably bound by a strap while held prisoner as part of a "wicked" kidnap plan by her mother to make £50,000 in reward money for her safe return, a jury heard. Karen Matthews faked the disappearance of her nine -year-old daughter sparking a massive search operation knowing all the time she was with Michael Donovan, her boyfriend's uncle, Julian Goose QC, prosecuting, told Leeds Crown Court.

The 999 call she made on February 19 reporting Shannon had failed to arrive home from school triggered their "dishonest and wicked plan" and her daughter's 24 day ordeal.

When police finally found Shannon at Donovan's flat on March 14 tests revealed she had been given Temazepam and a travel sickness drug to keep her drowsy and quiet.

Officers also discovered a list of rules she had to follow and an elasticated strap attached to a roof beam which Donovan probably used to restrict the girl's movements when he went out.

Dear Sir.

I am writing to put the record straight. After I phoned crime stoppers to tell the police who was involved in the Shannon Mathews dissapearance Wednesday the fifth of March it took nine more days before they ended the little girls ordeal. I telephoned crimestoppers around 8-45 in the evening on the abov date. I asked the operator if she believed in the sixth sense & she replied no. so I just delivered the message explaining that her uncle & her mother was involved in the abduction. The operator said she would pass it on. The next day a story appeared in the Sun newpaper Clairvoyont tell Shannons mum wher she is. I thought it was me but on reding the story it was not. The reason for this communication is that I dont want the police claiming that it was good old fashioned policing that found her when it was not.
