The Pakistan Muslim League, led by twice-elected former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has asked Islamabad to hold dialogue with the militants in the restive tribal region of the country. Sharif's party, which rules the largest Punjab province of the country, was ruling coalition partner in the centre but later quit the coalition when the senior partner did not fulfil its thrice promise of restoring the superior court judges who were sacked by former president Pervez Musharraf on November 3 last.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-N has urged that the government should hold political dialogue with extremists in the restive tribal areas bordering Afghanistan rather than resorting to use of force.

“We believe that a political dialogue should be initiated with the local extremists in the tribal areas to address their real issues and to get their help against the foreign extremists present in those areas,” Central Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said here Tuesday ahead of an in-camera parliamentary briefing on security issues.
