Sharif, Zardari pledge to thwart political dangers while agreeing to disagree
The leaders of Pakistan’s two biggest parties have pledged to work together thwart conspiracies against the political system and supremacy of parliament while agreeing to disagree on policies and governance, official sources said here Sunday.President Asif Zardari, who also heads the ruling Pakistan People’s Party and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who heads the Pakistan Muslim League-N, on Saturday night met for the first time in several months and after PML-N formally walked out of the coalition government at the center, to attempt to remove growing differences over pre-election pacts between the parties.
Sources said Sharif agreed to join hands with the government to tackle terrorism and the economic crisis after Zardari, who hosted a dinner at the President’s House, told the former premier that the economic woes coupled with growing militancy are threatening Pakistan’s stability and the parliament and political system are under threat from vested interests.
