Bob Ryan: Sheboygan Mayor May Be Recalled Due to Excessive Drinking

Bob Ryan, Mayor of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, is facing a recall election due to a series of too-public drunken episodes.

Ryan's critics say that the mayor simply parties too much, and that Sheboygan is a "national punchline" due to photos of Bob Ryan passed out at bars. We've featured a video of Bob Ryan making sexual slurs about his sister-in-law while drunk; that sort of footage is what prompted the recall.

Bob Ryan was also photographed face-down at the Brown Bear Bar in July 2011, having passed out after a binge-drinking session. He later got punched in the face and thrown out of the establishment.

Among Bob Ryan's opponents: an 18-year-old high school student named Asher Heimermann, who runs the @mayorbobryan parody Twitter account.

In an interview with [NBC correspondent John] Yang, Ryan said the city has gained jobs since he took office and reiterated prior claims that the drinking never affected his job and that he has now been sober for six months. Ryan noted that when he did drink, he was a binge drinker.
