Sheila Dikshit Sworn in as Chief Minister of Indian Capital Delhi
Defying anti-incumbency sentiments spearheaded by Opposition Hindu hardliner Bhartiya Janta Party, Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Indian capital New Delhi led her Congress party to a comfortable victory in Assembly polls for the third successive term.
The 71-year-old Dikshit has created a history of sort by being the only women chief minister of the Congress in the recent times. She her party to victory for the third consecutive term. She took oath for her third term. Indian capital is hosting commonweatlh games and massive developments projects are underway to give a facelift to Indian capital.
Sheila Dikshit, who defeated anti-incumbency predictions to steer the Congress to a win in the elections, took oath as Delhi chief minister for the third consecutive term Wednesday. Amidst loud slogans of “Congress Zindabad”, Dikshit beamed with confidence as Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna administered the oath of office in his official residence Raj Niwas.
Dikshit’s council of ministers also took oath on the occasion — A.K. Walia, Rajkumar Chauhan, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Mangat Ram Singhal, Haroon Yusuf and Kiran Walia.
Kiran Walia replaces Yoganand Shastri, who was the health minister in Dikshit’s previous cabinet.
