Shock report reveals rise in poverty in Britain

Last year a report was issued that showed that the UK was one of the worst places in the developed world to be a child. Now comes a new study showing that the UK's rate of child poverty is also one of the highest - and growing rapidly.

The number of old folk and children living on the breadline is growing - despite government pledges to cut poverty.

Shocking figures revealed yesterday show an extra 100,000 youngsters and 200,000 more pensioners are now poor.

And the soaring cost of living means many are having to cut back on essentials such as food and clothing.

In one area of London, Queen's Park every single youngster is now growing up deprived.

In nearby Church Street and in three areas of Manchester and in Spinney Hills in Leicester, 99 per cent children fall into this category.

Dave Keating, I like this story. It's good stuff. It's not old folk and children in poverty but those on the minimum wage as well.

I would also say that some pensioners are quite wealthy.. you should see them here in their sports cars and out on holiday cruises. They often have houses and some of the poorer young people can't even get a house, let alone afford a family.
