Demonstrators have invented weapon of showing anger and distrust. And it shoe.Well the use of it cannot be taken as violent, or better would be to tell it as non-violent attack. But the purpose of this kind of attack on world leaders, from Bush to Wen Jiabo, and now the Israeli diplomat, has a commonality , all such incident attracts immediate attention and force the think tank to think what and where they went wrong.

Hope in coming days we will see the international conference for banning shoes in such gathering or passing some qualitative and quantitative restriction on the use of shoes. The possibility of an international treaty also cannot be overruled.

At least it will protect the, so called world leaders from the shoe attack, and related sleepless night.

Israel's ambassador to Sweden was hit when a shoe and books were thrown at him as he was giving a lecture at Stockholm University,

radio reports said on Thursday.

Benny Dagan was talking about upcoming elections in his country on Wednesday night when the objects were hurled at him from the audience of 50 people. Police at the event took two people into custody.

The motive was believed to be a protest against Israel's policy toward the Palestinians.

A tossed shoe is considered a grave insult in the Arab world, and the incident involving Dagan followed another in December in which an Iraqi journalist threw shoe at US president George W Bush. The incident occurred at a press conference during Bush's farewell visit to Iraq before he left office last month. Bush ducked and was not hit.

A protestor shouting "Dictator" also tossed a shoe on Monday at Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao while he was visiting Cambridge University in Britain. The shoe missed the premier.

NOrefrendum, no election, shoe is the perfect answer.

people need to show the world leaders , how they rae performing. And in this case shoe is going to be very effective.

Bush, jiabo, episode clearly shows that world leaders need to think that there action is going to be scritinised by public, if not ok, then shoe is the answer.

Virtual Shoe throwing has become very popular. It seems that it could be expanded with additional targets.

The link to the web application below gives you the opportunity to throw your own virtual shoe at Bush!

So far more than 84,000,000 virtual shoes have successfully hit Bush in the face. Click the link below and use your mouse to move and click to throw shoes!

There is a US$1000 prize for the person who throws the 100,000,000th shoe!

I favour the International Treaty Route myself!  We could first hold a Summit for the G8 countries to dicuss the basic principles.  Afterwards, they open it to a Plenary for the G20.  That would bring in countries like India and Indonesia, where not everyone wears shoes everywhere.  So those countries could come up with the idea of a total ban on all 'shoes and anything purporting or in any way sunstituting for footwear or any covering of the body below the ankle, in any meeting or gathering of internationally diverse peoples'. (I had to pay a lawyer to give me the exact wording!).  Finally it would be a world conference, but we would then need to take into account all those countries that abstained because of religion.

You know, Amithjha, this could be really complicated!

Thanks for comment, all such so called simplyfying treaty are complicated and useless. All we need is use our shoe power and make it feel , that they do not desrve to be our representative.

Yes we are seeing sole less activism at its very best, how many feet was the shoe thrown this time?

The Israeli diplomate walked away feeling like a heel. And the security could not put the boot in or use their sandlewood coshes.

But why the picture of the soft shoe and is it made by nic built for airo-dynamics sort of floats on air for accuracy.

I actually like accurate reporting  and this story was spoilt by no mention if it was a left wing shoe or right wing. lol

it is totally irrelevent to search who is attacking and who is attacked. The point is the issue why there is so much dissaisfaction amongst the mass, and why they are choosing shoe as a symbol of attack.

You mean thousand of activist are throwing shoes so far its been one person at a time. Oh there was stones of course thrown by those I expect who realize that shoes are quiet expensive these days. the other point is its hard to run away with just one shoe on. lol

I think this new fad for throwing shoes is now seen as a means to get ones name in the news paper. One does it then you get the copy cats and of course the media love it.

One can be certain, this is not lost on designers of sports equipment who smell opportunity, in which they will offer to a disgruntled public a well designed , finely balanced throwing shoes, sights optional! All at a modest price for consumers in every country to fire at their elected officials.

I think that poor guy in Iraq who started it all, won't see a penny of it.

I am sure we will see in Media, Hollywood celebs will be seen walking out of Starbucks wearing their latest and greatest throwing shoe designs.

I think I hear Nike calling.....

For the more militant, I see a well designed, finely balanced Steel Toe Construction Throwing Boot.

Does this mean creme pies are out? Of course those of you who are so quick to embrace this new fetish must recognize the implications for the clown industry? My gawd, think of those giant Bozo shoes flying around...
