An Iranian man identified only as "Mohammad" killed six of his family members and neighbors in a rare shooting rampage in Tehran on Sunday night. Eleven people were injured. It is believed the man used his Kalashnikov rifle to shoot 800 rounds. He was captured by the police.
The middle-aged man, identified only as Mohammad, first killed his wife and two children, then went on the roof of his house and started shooting at neighbors and passers by in the suburb of Quds, about 20 km (12 miles) west of Tehran.
Security forces shot the suspect before he was taken into custody.
His motive was not immediately clear. Mass shootings such as this are extremely rare in Iran.
The official said that the man displayed no evidence of being psychologically disturbed after his arrest and reportedly stated in his confession that he intended to kill four other people as well.
