Shorter Homicide a First for 2008
13DEC2008 - Shorter, Alabama -- The Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Macon County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal shooting at exit 22 off Interstate 85 between Montgomery and Tuskegee, Alabama on Saturday evening which occurred at approximately 7:06pm. Shorter Municipal Police confirmed that a man was shot, and later died outside of the Kold Keg gas station nearby. Witnesses accounted for multiple volleys of gunfire being heard from a Chevron gas station across the street, during an alleged robbery attempt. Assailants fled the scene while a single victim crossed Highway 29 to seek help.
An employee at the Kold Keg Exxon explained that the man walked into the gas station bleeding, and then died outside a short while later.
The fatality is the city’s first homicide in over a year. With an approximate population of 2,078 people, Shorter is home to Quincy's Triple Seven Bingo Casino at VictoryLand. Victoryland’s Public Safety Department were among the first to arrive on the scene in response.
