Shoshana Hebshi Arrested for Flying while Dark-Skinned
Three Strangers Arrested Due to Skittish Fellow Passenger on Frontier Airlines Flight
Remember the story about the supposed Mile-High Club threesome that sparked an F16 escort? Turns out that the real story is a lot less funny.
The FBI said that no threesome took place, and, indeed, no crime at all. The three passengers, all strangers to one another, were released without charge.
Why, then, were they arrested?
To bottom-line it, these three people were arrested for being dark-skinned in coach class.
You should read the other side of the story: that of Shoshana Hebshi, the half-Jewish, half-Arab housewife from Des Moines who was arrested for the crime of sitting next to two Indian guys.
As the drama unfolded once the plane landed, Hebshi reported it via Twitter, unaware that she was the target of police scrutiny.
They put me in the back of the car. It’s a plastic seat, for all you out there who have never been tossed into the back of a police car. It’s hard, it’s hot, and it’s humiliating. The Indian man who had sat next to me on the plane was already in the backseat. I turned to him, shocked, and asked him if he knew what was going on. I asked him if he knew the other man that had been in our row, and he said he had just met him. I said, it’s because of what we look like. They’re doing this because of what we look like. And I couldn’t believe that I was being arrested and taken away.
- What happened to the twitchy person who couldn't handle sitting near three dark-skinned passengers?
- What recourse do the three detainees have? This looks like cut-and-dried racism.
Meanwhile, a similar incident is unfolding on a flight from New York to Phoenix. When we read "passengers behaving suspiciously", we think "civil rights violations".
